As a recognition of the efforts made by the destinations who participated and completed the 2 ETIS pilot phases, the European Commission will be giving these awards to some of the most successful destinations which have worked towards a more sustainable management approach, paying particular attention to accessibility and environmental issues.

The award ceremony is an opportunity for the winning destinations to get more visibility at European level, to exchange experiences and possibly to set an example for other destinations which wish to use the ETIS indicators in the future.

Awards will be given to 8 destinations in 3 categories, recognising both sustainable and accessible destination management approaches. They will be given based on social, economic, environmental and cultural criteria. Accessibility will also be a criterion for success.
